Mexico holiday pt. 2 – Life’s a beach
Mexico holiday pt.1 – Dolphin fighting
Swimming with dolphins is a once in a lifetime opportunity they say. It is. Because I’ll never do it again. Don’t get me wrong, it was a great day out. We got to feed them tons of fish, hitch a ride and give belly rubs. But with a constant flow of tourists coming and going they have lost their personalities a little bit. All day long it’s tricks, kisses, hugs and footpushes and very little time for dolphin private time and socialising. Until this happened…

This all happened during the holiday in Mexico I just returned from. An awesome time was had and a lot of doodles were done. So there is plenty more where this came from 😉
Sugar Skull Girls
In anticipation of my trip to Mexico I painted these little sugar skull girls today. I’ll be going to the region of Yucatan during Dia de los Muertos, the holiday during which family and friends meet and pray for loved ones who have died. Can’t wait to recharge my creative batteries and let myself get inspired by all the colours and history of this region.
That, and drink shitloads of cocktails.
Frida
“I don’t paint dreams or nightmares. I paint my own reality” – Frida Kahlo
Today was surreal. An August afternoon, one moment beaming with bright sunlight, the next thunderstorms and lightning. While shoppers were hiding in the bus shelter opposite my flat and the rain came pouring down my windows, I was sat snugly at my desk drawing Frida. The perfect inspiration for a perfect Sunday afternoon in.
Done in Indian ink and watercolour.
